How to Build a 6-Figure Business - Hint… It Starts with Your Brand

Building a 6 Figure Business Starts with a Solid Brand

Here at Specht & Co. we work with a wide variety of businesses. While many design studios specialize in one field (fitness businesses, product based businesses, etc.) we love working with business owners in industries ranging from copywriting to dog training and everything in between.

Regardless of industry, there’s one thing our clients always have in common – they’re ready to crank things up a notch and step into the next-level version of themselves and their businesses.

So what does that look like on a practical level? When we ask our clients what goals they’re hoping to achieve with their rebrand and/or new website, we hear a few things over and over again. They include:

  • Have a professional cohesive looking brand

  • Have a website that brings in more clients

  • Post more consistently on social media

And ultimately… reach (or exceed) 6 figures in revenue.

If those goals resonate with you then you might be wondering how to build a 6-figure business and what that looks like. Lucky for you, we have helped many businesses reach that elusive 6-figure mark, so we know a thing or two about what it takes.

Without further ado, here are five key components of a 6-figure brand that you’ll need to nail in order to reach that next level in your business.

The Key to Building a 6-Figure Business Starts with a Solid Brand

How to build a 6 Figure Business

1. A 6-figure brand strategy

If you want your business to reach 6 figures (and beyond), choosing a few pretty colors from Pinterest and buying a premade logo from Creative Market just isn’t going to cut it. Now don’t get me wrong, this strategy works fine when you’re just starting your business, aren’t quite sure who you’re marketing to, and are still in the “figuring things out phase”

But once you’ve been in business a few years and have really started to find your footing as a service provider, you’ll need to level up your branding. Step one in that process is to define your brand strategy. This includes defining your “why”, digging deep to get to know your ideal audience, auditing your competition, and making sure that everything about your brand is crafted in an intentional and strategic way in order to help move your business toward your goals (aka making that money, honey!).

At Specht & Co. we divide brand strategy into three components including brand substance, brand positioning, and brand persona. You can read more about the nitty gritty of brand strategy on our blog post, What Is Strategic Branding?

2. A polished and professional visual brand identity

Once you have a rock solid, 6-figure brand strategy, you’ll be ready to turn that into a beautiful, polished, and professional brand identity. A visual brand identity includes your logo(s), color palette, fonts, and any images that you use for your brand.

Here’s what you should focus on for each element in order to ensure that your visual brand identity is representative of a 6-figure business:

Logo(s): You’ll need a primary logo, secondary logo, and icon at the bare minimum. You should have multiple color variations for each (in your brand colors, of course) in addition to black and white versions, and your designer should provide you with vector (PDF, EPS, or SVG) and raster (JPEG or PNG) files for each.

Color Palette: If you want to connect with your ideal clients and grow your business to six figures, you can’t choose your personal favorite colors for your brand. Instead, getting to know your ideal client really, really well (aka part of your brand strategy) is going to be key because it will allow you to select colors using color psychology, which will ensure you’re attracting the right people and getting them to engage with your brand!

Check out our blog post, Three Quick Tips For Choosing Your Brand Colors to dive a little deeper into this topic.

Fonts: This one is fairly simple. Select 1-3 fonts for your brand and use them consistently. We suggest selecting one headline font, one body copy font, and one accent font. Google Fonts can still be a great resource for free fonts no matter what stage of business you’re in, and if you’d like something more custom, websites like Creative Market, MyFonts, and FontSpring are great sources.

Images: When a business is just starting out, I usually suggest purchasing a bundle of nicely curated stock photos from somewhere like Creative Market. BUT if you’re ready to be on your way to 6-figures, then it’s time to invest in *drumroll* a brand photoshoot!

Having polished, professional, custom brand photos is one of the best ways to really elevate your brand visuals. Showing your face helps your audience to connect with you, and using photos that are unique to your business will help you stand out from the crowd.

3. A functional, user-friendly website

When you were just starting out, you might have been able to get away with running your business using only a Facebook page, or a Wix website that you DIY’d using a template. Sorry to break it to you, but those days are long gone.

When engaging with a 6-figure brand, consumers expect a flawless, professionally designed website that is informative and easy to use. Here at Specht & Co. we use Squarespace and Kajabi for all of our website builds, but you can achieve this same result using other website platforms like Wordpress or Showit just as easily.

The key here is functionality and usability. Your website should function properly (i.e. no broken links, fast load times, etc.) and be easy for users to navigate. If you’re unsure if your existing website meets this criteria, download our Brand & Website Audit Guide to audit your own website and see where you might be able to make some improvements!

4. An on-brand social media presence

200 million social media users visit at least one business profile every day. So clearly, if your business isn’t on some form of social media, you’re missing out.

At Specht & Co. we usually recommend that our clients post regularly to a minimum of two social media platforms (usually Instagram, Facebook, and/or LinkedIn). You’ll also want to ensure that your social media content is on-brand visually. Use your brand colors, fonts, and those custom brand photos and you’ll be set up for success!

BONUS: Show your face! Look, I get it . . . sometimes we just don’t feel like popping onto Instagram Stories or a Facebook Live. However I would encourage you to put on your big girl panties and do it anyway. Not only does showing your face on video build trust and personal connection, video content is shared more and receives more engagement than static posts on nearly every social media platform.

5. An elevated and on-brand client experience

So you’ve nailed your brand strategy, visuals, and online presence? AMAZING! Now, here’s where you can really kick it up a notch. All of those things we just talked about will be invaluable when it comes to actually getting the client, but what do you do once you have them?

You knock their socks off, that’s what! We already know that you provide an absolutely killer service, and that coupled with a polished, professional, and on brand will keep them coming back for more (and referring their friends to you). That’s how we build a 6-figure business.

Places to utilize your branding within your client experience include any forms or welcome packets used in your onboarding process, client facing documents that you use while working together, and gifts and thank you notes that you send at the end of a project.

When your clients walk away from working with you thinking “wow, that was even better than I expected” they’ll be more than happy to write you a glowing testimonial, send new clients your way, and frankly build your business for you! What could be better?!

Unfortunately, branding alone isn’t enough to get your business to 6-figures. BUT if you’re providing a top-notch service, your offerings are priced for profit, AND you nail everything we’ve laid out in this post, you’ll be well on your way to meeting (and exceeding) this major milestone in your business!
